Escuela de Doctorado K1 Docentes - Formación K1 Teaching induction K1 Inducción docente K1 Teacher selection K1 Selección docente K1 58 Pedagogía AB This research aims to investigate the selection and insertion of the novice teacher of the specialty of Primary Education, key tanto of their professional development and as a sustaining element of the strengthening of the teaching profession. Focusing above all on the milestone of teacher selection and its immediately preceding and subsequent periods, that is, on initial training, selection through the established test system (competition-competition) and insertion into teaching practice as a trainee civil servant. To this end, a longitudinal case study has been chosen, considering participants from different calls for the teaching public service, using qualitative techniques such as the focus group, the open questionnaire or autobiography combined with quantitative techniques such as statistical analysis or quantitative content analysis. Among the results obtained we find that in none of the three phases are contemplated the professional teaching skills required by the Administration in an exhaustive way, that the initial training contrasts with the true labor development, that there is a high level of randomness in the selection process or that the subsequent internship period is still a mere procedure despite being part of the selection process. As conclusions we present a comprehensive model that starts from the selection from the initial training considering the teaching skills that society always demands and that the selection procedure is modified by establishing tests by competences in addition to psychotechnical tests and a true phase of practices that selects the applicants with a structured and far-reaching teaching induction program.
