Since Tim Brown published the article "Design Thinking" in Harvard Business Review, its practice has evolved considerably, being applied to both the design of tangible products (product design, architecture) and intangibles (services, experiences, business). Despite this rapid rise in popularity, it is not a completely new concept and common points have been detected in the project processes used within different disciplines. The aim of this thesis is to identify how the systematic application of Design Thinking stimulates innovation and creativity in the contexts of Architecture and Design. In the development of this research, special attention is paid to how people are located at the centre of these processes, defending the implementation of methodologies that consider empathy as a critical success factor. The argumentation of these initial approaches is developed through three ways. On the one hand, the implementation of the methodology in current case studies, proposed and provided by the author, allowing first-person experimentation and increasing understanding of the subject. On the other hand, the historical review of the integration of the user within the project process. This line of study has been traced through the analysis of the work of three pioneers: Charlotte Perriand, Richard Neutra and Lawrence Halprin. All of them pay special attention to the user and introduce empathy techniques to find out their needs and desires, in a more incipient way in the first two cases and in a more elaborated one in the third. Finally, conducting interviews with experts in the professional field of architecture and design. Their contributions connect the argument of the thesis with the reality and current context of the practice of the project.Through a detailed bibliographical investigation and the application of a correlational methodology, the results are obtained and the conclusions of the proposed thesis are drawn. They are detailed below. The separation border between architecture and design is very diffuse, although the final products may differ and require very specific execution processes for each discipline, the creative design process has many similarities. Currently, Design Thinking is best known in the field of design, although it is specifically applied only in some cases. However, most processes in one sphere or another make use of empathy. Sometimes this phase is worked on more explicitly; and other times it is carried out in a more subconscious or implicit way. This makes it possible to confirm that the user is key in the context of a project, not only as the recipient of the final product, but also as the starting point of the entire process. Thus, it is useful to implement a methodology with specific techniques that guide both the initial research and the subsequent decision-making.It is noted as necessary to reinforce the emotional dimension of the project. Although it is contemplated in some of the empathy techniques, it is more diluted in the representation of the methodology. In many cases, a story or an argument that works as a common thread, supporting the justifications for the project and building a strong link with the user. The intellectual work of a project entails a considerable dose of inspiration and reflection, for which it is decisive to connect with the user in the first instance; remembering that the concerns of society as well as the interests of the architects and designers need to be contemplated within the same equation.
