It is made with a top layer variable in thickness, glued to support, resulting in a more stable and cheaper kind of ready-to install wood floor of the same thickness. Maximizing the yield of the hardwood component. Oak (Quercus robur in Europe and Quercus alba in North America) is the most demanded species representing 82% of the market in Europe in 2020 (FEP, 2021). The big demand for oak sawn lumber is the reason for the development of thinner top layer versions that maximize the conversion of square meters by cubic meter.Other species with a similar look (color or grain) have emerged as economical alternatives. They have a similar yellow to light brown color and similar porosity pattern, like Ash (Fraxinus sp.), Chesnut (Castanea sp.), and Hickory (Carya sp). (American Hardwood Export Council, 2022); in the case of Spain and Portugal, Eucalyptus globulus could be a suitable option for this kind of substitution.A Dynamic impact test (AITIM, 2012), was used to evaluate the performance of different compositions of the Eucalyptus globulus engineered wood flooring, using oak as a reference. No difference was founded for the typical engineered wood flooring construction. The interaction with the three more common types of support, softwood sawn Wood, Plywood, and high-density fiberboard, was also studied not showing differences when the top layer has a thickness of 3 mm. When the top layer is thin, (0.6 mm) the use of high-density fiberboard support increases the 26overall impact resistance, minimizing the difference between the studied species. The behavior of high and low hardness species was analyzed, using solid wood flooring samples; engineered wood flooring construction of 3 mm top layer, and veneer flooring of 0,6 mm top layer. To study the accuracy of the impact test, variable heights and three different ball sizes had been used.
