AB In this research I examine the musical acts in the city of Valladolid between 1910 and 1920 through the information provided by the newspaper El Norte de Castilla. The general nature of this hemerographic source consolidates it as a valid and especially pertinent object of study to approach the musical events of the city, the main objective of this work. In addition to the enormous amount of information it provides, the press is also a recipient of sociopolitical, economic, ideological and identity processes that contribute to reproducing and configuring performative mechanisms through which every community represents and understands itself, in which matters what is told and how it is told.The period addressed in this work had been characterized by continuous changes in government, the Riff War, the First World War, constant price increases in basic products, as well as the rise of the labor movement, and regenerationism as the main ideological movement that led the newspaper to bet on a cultural renaissance, claimed and built by the speeches themselves. This position motivated the press to revile, on the one hand, and to support, on the other, certain musical practices based on their consideration in artistic terms. A situation that contrasted with the reality of a city monopolized by a intense leisure offer that was carried out by those genres that traditional historiography has considered liminal but that, paradoxically, were absolutely main.
