As a whole, the cinematographic images that disseminated the new built works offer a broad panorama of the construction policies undertaken by the authoritarian regimes in the Iberian Peninsula and expose their interests in the creation and dissemination of a certain image of architecture that has been transferred to the collective imagination of its spectators. This Doctoral Thesis deals with the architectural contents of the Portuguese newsreels Jornal Português (1938-1951) and Imagens de Portugal (1953-1970) and the Spanish newsreels Noticiario Español (1938-1941) and NO-DO (Noticiarios y Documentales Cinematográficos, 1943-1981), in addition to the documentaries produced by the official bodies of both countries, all of that to shape the story that the cinematographic medium hatched about the architectures of power and, particularly, of national residential policies. The first part of the work is devoted to the contextualisation of film production on the Peninsula, with its most direct antecedents, the quantification of the architectural contents that form the objective bases of the research. Together with the quantification, an approach is made to the reviews of foreign architecture in the Peninsula as well as the international scope of Spanish and Portuguese architecture, and of these in their own countries. The second part focuses on the cinematographic image that the official cinema offered of the new homes built, and the staging with which they were presented, in clear competition with other graphic media. The conclusions of the research synthesise the characteristics and contributions obtained from the analysis of these film materials that have condensed historical time and geographical space by establishing a comparative framework between the two countries, providing an introspective and, at the same time, transnational vision of the architectural fulfilments.
