In language contact situations, crosslinguistic influenceis expected. The main objective of this dissertation is to provide an analysis of null subjectsby L1 Spanish L2 English speakers. The participants were classified in three groupsaccording to their English proficiency level: high, medium and low. They had to complete aGrammaticality Judgment Task (GJT). The analysis of the data reveals that none of the threegroups exhibits crosslinguistic influence from the L1 into the L2 when judging subjects. Ingeneral, participants were able to distinguish sentences with null subjects from sentenceswith overt subjects. However, the results also show that there is a clear relationship betweenthe level of proficiency and how accurately participants judged sentences; the higher the levelof proficiency, the better they judge the grammaticality of subjects.
