This dissertation will analyse twelve songs from the album in relation to women’s folklore, feminist coding strategies and common themes and topics that appear in the representation of women in popular culture and in literature. Some of these topics are female rage, female madness, guilt, or the different expectations from men and women. The strategies that are used to deal with these topics are appropiation, trivialization, or incompetence, among others. This dissertation will also explore the limitations of Swift’s representation related to the newest wave of feminism. Ultimately, this analysis will try to prove the contribution of Taylor Swift’s folklore as part of women’s folklore and culture, as it has been considered as a piece of art written by a woman, about women, and meant for women to understand.
