RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 The Polymorphism rs17300539 in the Adiponectin Promoter Gene Is Related to Metabolic Syndrome, Insulin Resistance, and Adiponectin Levels in Caucasian Patients with Obesity A1 Luis Román, Daniel Antonio de AB BackgroundandAims:ThepresentstudywasdesignedtoinvestigateSNPrs17300539in theADIPOQgeneanditsrelationshipswithobesity,metabolicsyndrome(MS),andserumcirculating adiponectin.Methods:ThepresentdesigninvolvedaCaucasianpopulationof329subjectswith obesity.Anthropometricandadiposityparameters,bloodpressure,biochemicalparameters,and thepercentageofpatientswithmetabolicsyndromewererecorded. TheADIPOQgenevariant (rs17300539)genotypewasevaluated.Results:Thepercentageofpatientswithdifferentgenotypes of thers17300539polymorphisminthissamplewas86.0%(n=283) (GG),11.2%(n=37) (GA), and2.7%(n=9)(AA).TheallelefrequencywasG(0.76)andA(0.24). Applyingthedominant geneticmodel(GGvs.GA+AA),wereporteddifferencesbetweengenotypeGGandgenotype GA+AAforserumadiponectinlevels(Delta: 7.5±1.4ng/mL;p=0.03), triglycerides(Delta: 41.1±3.4mg/dL;p=0.01),fastingcirculatinginsulin(Delta:4.9±1.1mUI/L;p=0.02),andinsulin resistanceasHOMA-IR(Delta:1.4±0.1units;p=0.02).Theremainingbiochemicalparameterswere notrelatedtothegenotypeofobesepatients.ThepercentagesofindividualswithMS(OR=2.07, 95%CI=1.3–3.88;p=0.01),hypertriglyceridaemia(OR=2.66,95%CI=1.43–5.01;p=0.01),and hyperglycaemia(OR=3.31,95%CI=1.26–8.69;p=0.02)werehigherinGGsubjectsthanpatients withAallele.Logisticregressionanalysisreportedanimportantriskofthepresenceofmetabolic syndromeinGGsubjects(OR=1.99,95%CI=1.21–4.11;p=0.02)afteradjustingforadiponectin, dietaryenergyintakes,gender,weight,andage.Conclusions:TheGGgenotypeofrs17300539is associatedwithhypertriglyceridaemia,insulinresistance,lowadiponectinlevels,andahighriskof metabolicsyndromeanditscomponents.
