AB Translation in the Order of Preachers in Costa Rica: The Case of Friar Antonio Figueras-FiguerasThe present study focuses on two main objectives: to propose a guiding methodology to facilitate research on the practice of translation within religious orders and to produce a translator's portrait of the Costa Rican Dominican Friar Antonio Figueras-Figueras, O.P.This is a qualitative study. The first stage is framed in an empirical design with an indirect observational method to explore the object of study, starting from the pre-existing literature, with an analytical-punctual approach focused on the methodology used by historians of translation in studies concerning the translation activity within religious orders; thus, a corpus composed of books, academic journal articles, papers, web page content, and audiovisual material was examined. The second stage leads to applied research, which involves systematizing the information extracted from the corpus to outline the guiding methodology. Such methodology is implemented in the last part of this thesis.The implementation of the proposed methodology led to confirmation that there is evidence of translation activity within the religious orders in Costa Rica, specifically, in the Order of Preachers; that such activity meets the characteristics of "monastic translation"; and that the figure of the Costa Rican Dominican translator meets the profile of the religious translator. It was proved that Figueras' translation is the first translation of De Magistro, by St. Thomas Aquinas, into Spanish and that, in his translation process, professional translation features can be observed in the choice of terms and the application of translation techniques.
