This reductionist and traditional view of translation attributes to it the status of an explicit operation, typical of linguistic approaches. Translation in foreign language teaching is plural, and not all its manifestations correspond to explicitly pedagogical values, nor to a form of verbal communication, and even less to phenomena defined by norms or which can be subject to evaluation. These are all phenomena which, while escaping traditional approaches to translation, obey the principles of more modern approaches and theories, such as descriptive ones, which make it possible to analyse the value and meaning of translation in a textbook-based language teaching and learning situation.
