AB El artículo realiza, de manera pionero, un estudio desde la perspectiva socio-cultural de las monjas músicas en la temprana Edad Moderna castellana. Indaga sobre el concepto de "honra" para la mujer; su salvaguardia en el claustro y el papel significativo que las músicas representaron dentro de estas mujeres monjas. Se argumenta también sobre el prestigio alcanzado por ciertos conventos gracias a sus sonidos, la tipología usual de intérpretes y sobre ciertos repertorios habitualmente no considerados como propios e su género. This article is a pioneering study from a socio-cultural perspective of nun musicians in early modern Castilian Spain. It explores the concept of "honour" for women, its safeguarding in the cloister and the significant role that female musicians played among these nuns. It also argues about the prestige achieved by certain convents thanks to their sounds, the usual typology of performers and about certain repertoires not usually considered as proper to their genre.
