This PhD Thesis focuses on the search for alternatives for the integrated control of phytopath ogens based on nanotechnology, as a means for the optimization of other integrated management methods. Since natural extracts generally present problems of lability, solubility, and/or lack of specificity, the use of nanocarriers for their delivery and con trolled release is proposed. The improved efficacy of these bioactive products of natural origin with antimicrobial properties when encapsulated in the developed nanocarriers, based on chitosan oligomers and methacrylic anhydride as a crosslinking agent (in conjunction with lignin, graphene carbon nitride, and/or hydroxyapatite), has been evaluated in vitro, ex-situ, and in the field. The selected approach has proven to be suitable for the control of grapevine wood diseases, both for the reduction of vascular necrosis via endotherapy and for the protection of pruning wounds via direct application, and of post-harvest diseases in fruit via surface coating. Encapsulation of therapeutic agents has led to lower inhibitory concentrations than those of unencapsulated extracts in all cases, comparable to those of synthetic fungicides. Additionally, the incorporation of carbon nitride into the nanocarriers allows their multifunctionality, extending their scope of application to environmental remediation.
