Due to the searching or maybe just by chance, the book was copied, lost, found, bought and sold until the editio princeps was published by Bartolomeo Fonzio in Florence in 1478. It is worth telling this adventure because it didn’t end in the 16th Century but lasted from 1426, when the main manuscripts were found, to 1973. In fact, the spreading of the text and the enthusiasm for the printings had begun much sooner and they didn’t stop until the 17th Century, even later. This paper analyses the Renaissance editions and focuses on the paratextual elements of the very first printings (especially titles, prologues, indexes, dedications and colophons) in order to provide relevant information about the reception of the book, the target audience and the context of the time when they were published.
