AB This doctoral thesis focuses its object of study on the polyphonies of oral tradition, sung a cappella, of the Comarca Lagunera, located in the north-central part of Mexico, mainly in the town of Sapioríz, Durango. This thesis consists of four chapters that address the historical, vocal and sociocultural construction of this polyphony that, inherited from a colonial period, inscribes its resignification based on its own vocal and structural characteristics and is known as cardenche song. A transcultural and transgeographic dialogue is sought with various polyphonies of oral tradition, which have some similar characteristics with cardenche, in order to reconstruct, in diachrony, the improvisatory praxis as an expanded polyphonic semiosphere.
