Concurrently, particularly influenced by the recent global health crisis, there has been a heightened focus on urban health from a holistic perspective, encompassing criteria of habitability, well-being, and the quality of life of inhabitants. Furthermore, these new paradigms in urban development have incorporated cross-cutting social concepts that are critical in addressing urban issues, such as citizen participation and inclusion. These elements ensure that urban planning and transformative initiatives consider the diverse populations and circumstances within cities, thereby promoting policies of social and territorial justice. These multifaceted approaches to urban challenges have instigated extensive discourse on integrating health, sustainability, and inclusion criteria into urban planning and the regeneration of established urban spaces. This discourse has culminated in a comprehensive array of urban policies and legal instruments at various scales, from international to local levels, and through diverse perspectives and concepts (sustainable, healthy, friendly, inclusive, resilient, walkable, habitable, safe, active, caring cities, etc.), resulting in numerous plans, programs, guidelines, and intervention strategies. However, despite the seemingly innovative nature of these approaches to 'new' urban challenges, a brief examination of the accumulated experience in Western urban planning reveals that the arguments and often the solutions and intervention criteria proposed have consistently revolved around three primary perspectives: health, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a review of the theoretical frameworks and practical projects that have emerged within Western urban planning culture concerning three urban elements (urban green spaces, mobility, and the water cycle). The objective is to classify and conceptualize recurrent parameters in urban planning and design, providing a document that fosters critical reflection on interventions within the urban planning domain.
