AB The book of madrigals Armonía espiritual (Madrid, 1624) by the court violinist Stefano Limido (?-1647) contains eleven works based on poems with religious themes by some of the most representative writers of the Golden Age. After having delved into and analyzed the volume and having explored its historical, artistic, devotional and musical context, it can be stated that there exists in it a confluence of exceptional characteristics, -comparing it with the repertoires published during that period-, which coexist with other more common features in the spiritual music of the epoch. The main one, the choice of texts that are connected with the precepts promoted by the Counter-Reformation and the institutions and congregations that projected them. Not in vain, the spiritual madrigal was one of the ways that the Tridentine movement used as a catalyst for the new rule.This research work analyzes the close relationship of the contents of the poems on which Limido's madrigals are based with the conciliar postulates and other literary manifestations that supported them, such as the preachers' sermons, treatises on religious oratory or poetry. spiritual of the time. Likewise, it analyzes all those features (some circumstantial that surround the printed matter and others that attend to its musical characteristics), which, as a whole, make Spiritual Harmony an unusual book.
