By exploring the multifaced nature of dualism, this study seeks to develop an introduction to a broader literary theory that acknowledges the diverse manifestations and purposes of dualism within literature. Through a comprehensive analysis of selected novels, this research demonstrates that dualism operates as a multifunctional mechanism, influencing the characterization in diverse ways and the essence of the narrative. By examining the multiple representation of dualism across different levels – including but not limited to moral, identity, phycological and relational dimensions – this dissertation offers a general notion into the complex interaction between dualistic elements and the narrative.
