For this reason, literature can become a very useful tool, as it allows the use of structures that may not be so common in everyday use, thus facilitating the gradual improvement of the use of a language in different contexts. However, in recent years, the presence of literature in English as a Foreign Language classrooms has been scarce, or non-existent, instead of focusing on the acquisition of the language. For this reason, in this paper, a reasoned presentation of the benefits of literature, more specifically poetry, for learning a foreign language will be made, as well as a didactic proposal for a 2nd Bachillerato, which will incorporate reading and writing poems and communicative activities involving famous poets, with the aim of familiarizing students with the genre and encouraging the expression of their emotions and thoughts.
