AB This study will analyze the presence and evolution of the concept of “theAmerican Dream” in John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath and F. Scott Fitzgerald’sThe Great Gatsby. Through these novels, an analysis of the American Dream will beundertaken with the aim of understanding and analyzing the different andcomplementary perspectives of the American Dream, from the superficiality of theRoaring Twenties in The Great Gatsby to the struggle during The Great Depression inThe Grapes of Wrath. These novels explore how the American Dream transforms itself,evolving from a promise of happiness and prosperity in the twenties to a full-blownnightmare engulfed by crisis in the thirties.
