During his reign, Charles V became the center of a territorial and legal network that spanned a significant portion of Europe, the Americas, and other overseas territories. This geographic expanse was unified under his sovereignty through a carefully structured political, legal, and institutional framework, enabling the governance of kingdoms and dominions with distinct legal systems and traditions. To fully understand the organization and governance of this structure, it is essential to delve into the legal regime of the sovereignty titles that comprised it. Through such an analysis, it becomes possible to examine in detail the effective reach of royal power in each territory, the limits imposed by local legal systems, and the institutional particularities, offering a more precise view of the foundations that supported sovereignty and governance within the Hispanic Universal Monarchy. The present research aims to fill a gap in historiography, which has not sufficiently addressed the legal regime of the Habsburg sovereign titulature. Specifically, it focuses on the detailed analysis of the Kingdom of Naples and the Duchy of Milan, two paradigmatic cases that perfectly illustrate the dynamics of territorial integration within the Monarchy and the legal foundations of the legitimation and structuring of royal power in territories with distinct and differentiated legal systems.
