Traditionally, this reaction is carried out through the coupling of an aryl halideand an organometallic derivative.Through the application of C–H activation in homogeneous catalysis, a greeneralternative to the traditional reactions is found. Instead of an organometallic compound, the hydrocarbon is reacted directly with the aryl halide. To facilitate the reaction of thegenerally inert C–H bond on a Pd centre, Metal-Ligand Cooperation is required. Theresearch group has focused mainly on the [2,2’-bipyridin]-6(1H)-one ligand. In this workwe synthesize a new ligand that outperforms the previously used one in both rate andselectivity.Metallic complexes with this new ligand were synthesized and stochiometricexperiments were carried out as a preliminary mechanistic study.
