AB The character of Mary I, or Mary Tudor, has been traditionally linked to the belief thatshe was a sanguinary queen who only wanted to persecute the heresy that, according toher, invaded England during her rule, and that bad reputation has persisted for centuries.However, some 21st century authors and historians, considering the latest historicaldiscoveries, are actively trying to reshape her reputation through their works. Thisdissertation utilizes two biofictions based on the character of Mary I which try to shiftthis vision of the former queen, with them being Queen of Martyrs: The Story of Mary I(2017) by Samantha Wilcoxon and Mary, queen of Sorrows (2024) by Alison Weir havebeen used. The fictional analysis shows a more positive view of Mary, focusing more onher positive traits, and opposing the propagandistic reputation that has reached our days.
