When it comes to its advantages and educational value, its different genres, formats and styles allow for the development of a wide range of skills. Among these are linguistic, cognitive and personal competencies. Also, literature can enhance students’ motivation and engagement. By including literary texts in the syllabus, students are able to develop their understanding of grammar, expand their vocabulary and enhance their reading comprehension while ensuring that other competencies, such as critical thinking and cultural awareness are tackled. This is especially important in younger learners in the process of shaping their identity, as the development of the personal and cognitive skills is as important as that of the linguistic ones.
