Recent findings from the Barómetro de hábitos de lectura y compra de libros en España (Ministerio de Cultura, 2023) show that individuals aged 14 to 24 are the country’s most regular readers (75.3%). Moreover, they are highly familiar with hybrid formats that combine text and image. In light of this, the study introduces a didactic proposal based on the graphic novel adaptation of The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien, 1937), The Hobbit: A Graphic Novel (Dixon & Wenzel, 1989), structured as a sequence of activities throughout any trimester of the year and culminating in a final project. The expected outcome is that integrating graphic novels will enhance students’ motivation, engagement with literature, and linguistic competence in the EFL classroom.
