These have evolved uniquely across the various regions of the country, generating complex interrelations between tradition and avant-garde, as well as identity and syncretism. This doctoral dissertation examines the construction of contemporary folk music as a musical genre in the province of Valladolid from 1968—marked by the release of Joaquín Díaz's first LP—to the present, drawing on my position as an insider researcher. Through an ethnographic and autoethnographic approach, I establish a dialogue between the narratives of various actors within the local music scene, my own personal experience, and a diverse array of documentary sources. In line with the framework proposed by Burt Feintuch (1993), the study explores the conceptualization of tradition and authenticity, the codification of repertoire, and the development of styles and models. Simultaneously, I define the principal conventions that shape the musical genre (Holt, 2007) and identify the "musical pathways" (Finnegan, 2001) that have shaped interaction and coexistence within the local scene through individual and collective musical practices.
