In this context, music occupied a privileged position as a tool for spiritual, social, and pedagogical renewal. The Real Sociedad Económica Sevillana de Amigos del País (Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Seville) was one of the institutions that embodied these ideals through the creation, in 1881, of a Music Class Section exclusively for women—an initiative that would later become the Academy of Music, where Eduardo Torres would play a key role from 1919 until his death.Torres, a priest and composer, served as a professor of piano, solfège, and composition, and was a leading figure in the implementation of a modern, methodologically innovative, and notably feminist approach to music education. This institution introduced pedagogical methods such as Dalcroze Eurhythmics and placed special emphasis on ensemble classes and choral training, in alignment with the most progressive European trends. Through his work at the Academy and his contributions to the press—particularly in the ABC de Sevilla newspaper—Torres incorporated the principles of Krausofeminism into his teaching practice. This dissertation analyzes his figure from a critical, interdisciplinary, and contextualized perspective, challenging his traditional classification within the Motu Proprio movement. This work proposes a new aesthetic reading of his organ compositions, particularly his Saetas, in which influences from the French organ school, especially that of César Franck, are revealed, along with symbolist resonances akin to those found in the works of his contemporaries, such as Joaquín Turina.
