A quasi-experimental design was conducted with a control group and an experimental group, to which standardized tests of executive functions (Stroop, BRIEF-2, and Rey Complex Figure) and literacy (TALE) were administered. The intervention program, implemented exclusively in the experimental group, consisted of 22 sessions aimed at strengthening the cognitive processes involved in reading and writing tasks. The results showed significant improvements in writing skills in the experimental group, with large effect sizes, whereas in reading only moderate, non-significan progress was observed. The control group also improved in writing, but with a small effect size, and the differences between groups were not significant. These findings suggest that strengthening executive functions is relevant for improving literacy learning at the beginning of schooling.
