AB This thesis presents the results of three publications on the treatment with levosimendan in patients with advanced heart failure (HF) who are not candidates for other therapies with prognostic value, such as heart transplantation (HT) and long-term left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). The main aim of this thesis is to describe the clinical profile, how these patients are treated in real-world clinical practice, and the outcomes of treatment with outpatient inotropic therapy programs — a topic that has been scarcely studied.Moreover, this represents a growing patient population in the coming years due to the expected increase in the prevalence of HF. Their clinical condition has a significant impact — not only in terms of loss of quality and quantity of life for the patients themselves, but also for healthcare systems due to the high morbidity, mortality, and frequent need for hospital admissions.
