AB The aim of this paper is to review the current interpretations of the late medieval economic growth in Castilian countryside in order to restore the peasants' role as economic agents. This involves a reassessment of the relationships between the peasants' economy and the market, together with a greater focus on the former's capacity in developing planned production strategies and on the overall implications in increasing labour productivity.
