This process of changes has a peculiar expression in the territory of the diocese of Osma. The introduction of the Christianity collided not only with the roman ideological structures but also with a traditional celtic religious thought, scarcely adulterated by the tolerant religious character of Rome. The Christianity could not remove the old celtic-rooted believes of the rural communities, which reflected the essence of the economical and social ancient life with the consecration of the forces and the elements of the nature, as the forest, the water and the stones, all of them translated in their own cults, specially that of the mountain as a cosmic centre. The Christianity had to act against these celtic and roman cults in a hard social and religious war to make prevail its religious believes, a different thinking method and an ideological feeling rooted in an opposite cultural tendency.
