Las bases del canon: literatura griega

Abstract

This paper discusses the origin and perspectives of the canon of Greek Literature. After outlining the question, both the history of the word κανών and the concept 'canon' in Antiquity are explored. Nowadays the existence of different kinds of canon must be assumed: this paper deals with one of them, the so-called internal canon. In order to analyze it, some peculiarities of the ancient Greek Literature must be first identified. Afterwards the study specifies the reasons which make reasonable not to exclude three kinds of authors from the canon: postclassical writers, Christian authors and representatives of transcultural literatures. The paper discusses then the two main points concerning the canon, the textual quality and the importance within the cultural tradition. Finally some considerations concerning the possibility of establishing selective lists of Greek authors on the basis of the comments and critical judgments of ancient readers are proposed.

Este trabajo estudia el origen y perspectivas del canon de la Literatura Griega. Tras plantear la cuestión, se traza la historia del término κανών y del concepto de 'canon' en la Antigüedad. Hoy por hoy parece que se ha de asumir la existencia de distintos tipos de canon: este trabajo se centra en uno de ellos, el canon interno. Para estudiarlo, se empieza por esbozar las características peculiares de la Literatura Griega antigua. Después se especifican las razones por las que no se han de excluir del canon a priori tres grupos de autores: escritores de época postclásica, autores cristianos, representantes de literaturas transculturales. A continuación, el trabajo se detiene en el examen de las dos claves básicas del canon: la calidad de los textos y su peso en la tradición. Por último, se proponen algunas consideraciones sobre la posibilidad de deducir listas selectivas a partir de la experiencia de los lectores de la Antigüedad.
