A comienzos de los años cincuenta del siglo pasado, el nacionalcatolicismo se evidencia en el Manifiesto rectoral y conflictos entre la Universidad y el Arzobispado de Valladolid. Mientras el rector justifica con detalle la confesionalidad de la institución universitaria, el arzobispo, que aplaude este comportamiento, defiende como prioridad los intereses parroquiales. El choque entre ambos intereses -fuero y tradiciones universitarias, reivindicados por el rector y la junta de gobierno, frente a la inflexibilidad de las normas canónicas del arzobispado- originan un conflicto, cuyo pretexto son las exequias que, en la capilla universitaria de Santa Cruz, se celebran en honra de dos catedráticos.
In the early 1950's the National Catholicism is expressed by a manifesto produced by the Rector of the University and conflicts between the University and the Archbishopric of Valladolid. While the University Rector justifies a detailed submission of the Universities position, the Archbishop, who acknowledges that, also defends the parish churches interests as the first priority. The clash between both interests - University traditions and privileges (supported by the Rector and the Board of Education) -versus the inflexibility of Canon Law of the Archbishopric- highlighted by a conflict over the issue of the funeral rites of two Professors being held at the University Chapel of Santa Cruz.
