Abstract

Although the Church and Hospital of Santiago de los Españoles in Rome did not come under the King, the seventh century witnessed the consolidation of regal patronage, that is, of the power of the King and his ambassador to intervene in its management, a trend which was firmly established in the first half of the eighteenth century.

Aunque la iglesia y hospital de Santiago de los españoles de Roma no dependía del poder real, en el siglo XVII se afianza la idea del patronato regio y, por consiguiente, de la autoridad del rey y su embajador para intervenir en su gobierno, lo que se consolida en la primera mitad del XVIII.
