The purpose of this article is to examine the symbolic material and social links between collective memory, identity and the space of Salamanca, in the 21st century through the novel, Tierra Violenta, by Luciano G. Egido. From this perspective, I propose a reading of this text that helps us to understand how the political and economic circumstances determine the structure of the city; which changes, in turn, the life of their inhabitants. It is a city that, apparently, lives in the past but that isn't immune to the mechanisms rule the 21st century. In this approach, the literary text is a source of different analytical lines for understanding the urban temporalities and the dialectics of both the public project and the urban heritage.
El propósito de este artículo es examinar el material simbólico y los vínculos sociales entre la memoria colectiva, la identidad y el espacio de Salamanca, en el siglo XXI a través de la novela, Tierra Violenta, de Luciano G. Egido. Desde esta perspectiva, propongo una lectura del texto que nos ayude a entender cómo las circunstancias políticas y económicas determinan la estructura de la ciudad; que cambia, a su vez, la vida de sus habitantes. Se trata de una ciudad que, aparentemente, vive en el pasado, pero que no es inmune a los mecanismos que rigen el siglo XXI. En esta aproximación, el texto literario es una fuente de distintas líneas de análisis para entender las temporalidades urbanas y la dialéctica de ambos, el proyecto público y la herencia urbana.
