Nombres propios, decoración pictórica de viviendas, libros y cláusulas notariales aluden a una permanente presencia cotidiana de lo sobrenatural entre los castellanos del Antiguo Régimen. Muchos nombres de mujer, pinturas y fórmulas testamentarias hacen referencia a la Virgen; son muchos los varones que tiene su antropónimo basado en el apostolado. El Santoral (con la madre de Dios a la cabeza) constituía el pilar de las defensas y "seguridades" religioso-terrenales para aquella "cultura popular" siempre hambrienta y necesitada de protección. Así, sólo pudieron evolucionar y modificarse, en estilo y contenido, muy lentamente.
Proper names, pictorial decoration in the houses, books and legal clauses allude to a constant presence of the supernatural in the daily life ot the Castilians during the Ancien Regime. A lot of names of women, paintings and testamery clauses refer to the Virgin; there are a lot of men with names based on the names of the Twelve Apostles. The list of saints (with the Mother of God at the top of the list) was the mainstay of the earthly-religious "securities" of that "popular culture", always longing for protection. In this way, they could only change very slowly in regard to contents and manners.
