La organización del espacio diocesano en la historia de Castilla y León

Abstract

Se pretende hacer en el presente trabajo una exposición y análisis de los factores que han actuado a través de la historia en la formación de las diócesis castellano-leonesas, así como de las unidades territoriales integradas en ellas: arcedianatos, arciprestazgos ... No se trata de dar a conocer solamente sus orígenes, sino el proceso de esa división territorial eclesiástica, no coincidente con el de la estructura de la civil, si bien han prevalecido, recientemente, unos criterios tendentes a hacer coincidir los límites diocesanos con los provinciales, efecto conseguido en Castilla y León en proporciones muy superiores, curiosamente, a las de otras entidades regionales.

The aim of this article is to give an account and an analysis of the different elements that have played a part throughout History in the formation of dioceses in Castille and Leon, and of the territorial entities integrated within them: archdeaconries, archbishoprics ... It is not only on their origins that light will be shed on, but also on the process of that ecclesiastical, territorial division, which does not coincide with the civil one. The criteria that have lately prevailed show a tendency to making diocesan limits coincide with provincial ones. Curiously, as regards Castille and Leon, this effect has been achieved in a scale larger than that of other regional entities.
