El objeto de este trabajo es exponer con algún detalle los orígenes de la obra principal de Malthus, An Essay on the Principle of Population. Se verá que, aunque los motivos que le movieron a escribirlo son más bien de carácter filosófico -el rechazo hacia el optimismo de Godwin y Condorcet, el intento de rebatir el "comunismo primitivo" de esos autores, etc.-, el resultado fue una aportación a la Historia del Pensamiento Económico.
The aim of this paper is to expose with some detail the origins of Malthus' main work An Essay on the Principle of Population. It will appear that, though he was actually moved by philosophical interests -the rejection ofGodwin and Condorcet's optimism, the effort to refute their "primitive comunism", etc.-, the result was a contribution to the History of Economic Theory.
