Partiendo del análisis de los primeros libros de matrícula de la Universidad de Oñate que se conservan, pertenecientes al siglo XVII, realizamos un estudio de su población estudiantil. Cuantitativamente el Colegio-Universidad vasco sintió la tendencia general de las universidades europeas de decadencia y estancamiento, hasta llegar a carecer prácticamente de alumnos. Estos procedían del área geográfica más cercana, es decir de las diócesis de Calahorra, Burgos, Pamplona y Santander.
Starting from the analysis of the first register books of the University of Oñate which still remain from the 17th century we made a research about its studying population. Quantitatively the Vasque University-College felt the general tendency of the European Universities of decadence and stagnation, even to lach almost absolutely of students. These carne from the nearest geographic area, that is from the diocese of Calahorra, Burgos, Pamplona and Santander.
