El Norte de Castilla ante la problemática del bienio azañista (1931-1933)

Abstract

Intento realizar una primera aproximación sobre la actitud del diario vallisoletano, El Norte de Castilla, con respecto a la realidad española durante el bienio azañista (1931-33). Somero estudio que contempla tres aspectos: la empresa periodística durante la II República, algunos aspectos cuantitativos y la actitud del diario frente a la realidad recogida, interpretada e impresa en las páginas del periódico. Se distingue entre aspectos agrarios, regionales, de relación Iglesia-Estado, sociales y culturales; desde el punto de vista cuantitativo. Como conclusión se puede afirmar la adhesión inicial del Norte con respecto al cambio de régimen e instauración de la II República. Evolucionando desde esta actitud favorable a otra más negativa, por los radicalismos de los políticos de la conjunción republicano-socialista en el poder. Adheriéndose a la corriente de opinión moderada frente al régimen republicano, representada por José Ortega y Gasset cuando afirmaba que "la República no es esto".

I am tryng to achieve basic approach to the position of that paper from Valladolid called El Norte de Castilla with regard to the Spanish realities during Azaña's two-year period (1931-33). It is a shallow work which deals with three aspects: the journalistic undertaking during the second Spanish republic, some quantitative aspects and the paper's attitude faced to the facts which were picked up, interpreted, and printed on the pages of this newspaper. From the quantitative point of view, we can distinguish among agrarian, regional, social and cultural aspects, although it also deals with the relation between church and state. In conclusion, the Norte's initial support to the change of regime and the setting - up of the second Spanish republic can be stated. From this favourable attitude it changed to a more contrary one because of the radicalisms of those politicians who selonged to the republican socialist coalition in power. And, facing the republican régime, it ended up by joining in the tendency of moderate opinion, which was symbolized by José Ortega y Gasset when he affirmed that "this isn't the Republic".
