En este trabajo se ponen de manifiesto algunas de las variables que muestran como a lo largo de la dictadura franquista se acentuó el atraso y la debilidad estructural de la prensa diaria española debido, entre otros factores, a la manipulación propagandística de unos medios de comunicación social convertidos en meros instrumentos ideológicos de Estado, de forma que ante las nuevas demandas informativas de la sociedad española en los inicios de la transición democrática la prensa arrastraba unos importantes lastres ideológicos y empresariales que marcaron su trayectoria a finales de los años setenta.
In this study we can observe some of the numerous variables that show how important the lack of development and the structural weaknesses of daily Spanish newspapers was throughout General Franco's Dictatorship. This was due several facts among which we can point out the propagandistic manipulation of the mass media which played a purely ideological role in Spanish politics. This situation held back the response to demands for new independent mass media at the early stage of the democratic transitional period, where newspapers still faced very important ideological and economical obstacles that marked their trajectory at the end of the 60's.
