El Colegio de Huérfanos "Santiago" y la ciudad de Valladolid (1892-1908)

Abstract

In 2012 they met the 120 years of the creation and implementation underway of the orphan school for the "Santiago" Cavalry weapon. The article realizes the intense relationship of the city of Valladolid with the College in its early years as an institution created to meet an urgent need in many times, as a result of the effects on the family environment of the Guerra of Cuba, among other circumstances. The city of Valladolid, not only supported through their political representatives the implementation underway of the school, but it kept the effort during the early years, sometimes with great difficulty, to hold the school, to its final location at the place where today, ensuring their stay in the city. Time from which the Council of administration of the Board of Trustees assumed the main role on it.

En 2012 se han cumplido 120 años de la creación y puesta en marcha del Colegio de Huérfanos para el Arma de Caballería “Santiago”. Este artículo aborda la intensa y no siempre fácil relación de la ciudad de Valladolid y el Colegio en sus primeros años como institución, creada para atender una necesidad acuciante como consecuencia de los efectos en el ámbito familiar de la Guerra de Cuba, entre otras circunstancias adversas. El consistorio no solo apoyó a través de sus representantes políticos la puesta en marcha del Colegio, sino que mantuvo el esfuerzo durante los primeros años, a veces con grandes dificultades, para sostenerlo hasta su ubicación definitiva en 1908 en el lugar donde se encuentra hoy, asegurando su permanencia en la capital. A partir de entonces, el Consejo de Administración del Colegio asume todo el protagonismo iniciándose una nueva andadura.
