In this paper we intend to address the foundational story of Treng-Treng and Kay- Kay, for which the Mapuche people have traditionally provided an explanation of its origins, the origin of some cosmological elements and the configuration of its territory. Our goal is to bring the reader to this interesting story and show how it has been influenced by Christianity, becoming for the Mapuche people, even today of unquestionable importance. This story narrates the battle fought by two giant serpents called Treng-Treng and Kay-Kay, which embody the stems of two powerful “spirits” facing each other. Through the development of the battle, the reality of the territory gradually takes shape (both physical and intangible) as well as part of the sociocultural system of the Mapuche people.
En el presente trabajo pretendemos abordar el relato fundacional de Treng-Treng y Kay-Kay, con el que el pueblo mapuche ha brindado tradicionalmente una explicación sobre sus orígenes, la procedencia de algunos elementos cosmogónicos y la configuración de parte de su territorio. Nuestro objetivo no es otro que acercar al lector esta interesante historia y a la par, mostrar como la misma ha estado desde hace siglos influenciada por el cristianismo, constituyéndose para las personas mapuche, incluso en nuestros días, en una narración de incuestionable importancia. Esta historia narra la batalla llevada a cabo por dos serpientes gigantes llamadas Treng-Treng y Kay-Kay, las cuales encarnan a los vástagos de dos poderosos “espíritus” enfrentados entre sí. A través del desarrollo de la batalla, se va configurando paulatinamente la realidad (tanto física como intangible) del territorio y de parte del sistema sociocultural del pueblo mapuche.
