La obra del capitán Diego de Villalobos y Benavides ofrece una visión personal de la Guerra
de los Ochenta Años al término del siglo XVI. De ella se pueden extraer las claves de la vida
cotidiana del soldado, su estructuración dentro del tercio y sus motivaciones. Asimismo, es
fuente de gran valor de cara al tratamiento de los asedios de época moderna. Desde estos
datos particulares, este trabajo permite ofrecer una visión general de lo que suponía formar
parte de los tercios españoles a finales del siglo XVI.
The work of Captain Diego de Villalobos y Benavides offers a personal view of the Eighty
Years’ War at the end of the sixteenth century. The soldier’s everyday life keys, his structure
within the pikes and shots regiment known as Tercio and his motivations can be extracted
from this work. It is also a source of great value to face sieges in modern era. Since these
particular facts, this work tries to offer an overview of what was supposed to be part of the
Spanish Tercios in the late sixteenth century.
