Los orígenes de la Historia en Hispania

Abstract

In this article we study the origins and evolution of the discourse about the Ancient History of the Iberian Peninsula. Apart from some anecdotal beginnings in the Middle Ages, the main focus was produced in the sixteenth Century, during the Renaissance, and in the eighteenth Century with the Enlightenment. The nineteenth century was a period of backwardness although this was followed by some importants initiatives in the early twentieth century. During those years the study of the ancient history of Spain became sounder specially after the discovery of the Iron Age Iberian world, as well as because of the development of classical archaeology.

En el presente artículo se analizan los orígenes y la evolución del discurso sobre la Historia Antigua de la Península Ibérica. A partir de unos inicios anecdóticos en la Edad Media, la principal atención se produjo en el siglo XVI, en el Renacimiento, y en el siglo XVIII, con la Ilustración. Después del atraso producido en el siglo XIX, donde sin embargo existirán algunas iniciativas importantes, en las primeras décadas del siglo XX el estudio de la Historia Antigua de España se potenciará, sobre todo a partir del descubrimiento del mundo ibérico, así como del desarrollo de la arqueología.
