Resumo
Torquemada is a town in the region of Cerrato that preserves a very interesting traditional winery complex. In this region, the vine growing and the wine aging gained a great importance from the end of the 16th century until the beginning of the 20th century. At that moment, the wine production went into decline as a result of the appearance of a number of plagues in the vineyard. There is an old document from 1524, which presents a wine theft dispute "...in the wine cellars in the place of Ladredo", its construction may be therefore very previous to those dates. Winery complex is formed by 465 wineries organized according to a number of parallel streets. It is the result of an historic planned authorization and construction process, on a flat ground, following the layout of straight practically parallel streets in east-west direction, with limestone masonry facades orientated to the north.
