En este trabajo vamos a hacer una aproximación a la figura de la reina Catalina de Lancáster (1372-1418), consorte de Enrique III y madre de Juan II de quien asumiría su regencia con Fernando de Antequera. Planteamos que aunque algo oculta en las crónicas donde se ha intentado sobre todo destacar su papel como legitimadora de la dinastía Trastámara, su labor al frente del reino es mucho más amplia. Fundadora de conventos y señora de algunas de las ciudades más destacadas de Castilla, a día de hoy su obra no ha obtenido la relevancia que merece.
In this study we are going to make an approximation to the historic figure of the queen Catherine of Lancaster (1372-1418), consort of Henry III and mother of John II from whom she would assume its regency with Ferdinand of Antequera. We argue that, although partly hidden in the chronicles, where it has been tried above all to emphasize her legitimating role for the Trastámara dynasty, her ruling labour for the kingdom were much larger. Convent founder and lady of some of the most outstanding cities of Castile, to this day, her work has not gained the relevance it deserves.
