Tras el final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, una época de paz y prosperidad se instalaría en Europa, con el fin de dejar atrás los viejos nacionalismos y reconstruir una Europa convaleciente, se desempolvó la idea latente de una integración europea, que hiciese frente a las adversidades que se le presentase y que fraguase una unión cuyo objetivo prioritario fuese la paz en nuestro continente.
Sobre esta base, el presente trabajo hace un recorrido histórico desde los precedentes de la Unión Europea hasta su situación actual, sin dejar atrás, las cuestiones de futuro.
