El Trabajo Social como agente de cambio en los cuidados paliativos

Abstract

El presente trabajo es una revisión bibliográfica de la literatura científica que se ocupa del estudio y el abordaje de los cuidados paliativos y su aplicación en las situaciones previas al momento del fallecimiento ante el padecimiento de una enfermedad incurable y progresiva, que conducirá a la muerte en un breve periodo de tiempo. Gracias a los avances en campos como la medicina y la tecnología las fases que preceden a la muerte en enfermedades terminales se han alargado significativamente, lo cual provoca una mayor participación en el sistema de salud de recursos sanitarios y sociales en el proceso de morir y la necesidad de aplicar tratamientos específicos englobados en cuidados paliativos. En este sentido, nos centraremos en el cambio de paradigma experimentado y la necesidad de la figura del trabajador social en la intervención con este tipo de pacientes y su entorno más próximo; considerando de tal importancia las labores desarrolladas por estos profesionales, serán nuestro objeto de estudio.

This proyect is a bibliographic review of the scientific literature that studies and looks into all that is related to Palliative Care and the way these procedures are put to work during the last moments of the lives of patients who are suffering from an incurable and progressive disease that is expected to result in their death within a short period of time. As a result of the progress made in medical and technological fields, these periods of time have witnessed a considerable extension, causing the Sanitary System to play a very important roll in this process, well as the need to create and develop specialised treatments that have been given the name of Palliative Care. We will focus our interest on the relevance of the social worker figure, regarding his/her relationship with this type of parients and their close surroundings. We consider the service of these professionals to be of great importance and that is the reason why it has become our object of study.
