La realidad carcelaria en la España del siglo XIX se caracteriza por el cambio en la idea de encierro, pasando las cárceles de ser un depósito de presos que esperaban la sentencia, a ser considerada la estancia en las mismas como castigo desde el Código Penal de 1822. El estudio de las cárceles de la Justicia Real Ordinaria de la Alcarria guadalajareña en la crisis del Antiguo Régimen nos permite adentrarnos en esta realidad, en vísperas de su transición, para analizar sus condiciones y percepción por esos pueblos, reflejo de otros del Reino.
The prison reality in 19th-century Spain is characterized by the change in the idea of confinement, passing the prisons of being a deposit of prisoners who awaited the sentence, to be considered the stay there as punishment since the Penal Code of 1822. The study of the prisons of the Ordinary Royal Justice of the Guadaljarian Alcarria in the crisis of the Old Regime allows us to delve into this reality, on the eve of their transition, to analyze their conditions and perception for these peoples, reflecting others of the Kingdom.
