Transformaciones económicas en el siglo XXI en África subsahariana

Abstract

Desde la entrada del milenio, se han vivido grandes transformaciones económicas y sociales en todo el mundo. Destaca por ello la región de Asia Oriental y en particular el fenómeno de rápido crecimiento y desarrollo de China. No obstante, existen otras áreas en el mundo que también podrían haber experimentado importantes cambios, como es el caso de África subsahariana a quien los medios no prestan especial atención en la actualidad, pero ¿se están viviendo realmente cambios significativos en el continente africano? Este trabajo compara la evolución y la situación actual de las variables utilizadas habitualmente para explicar los procesos de crecimiento y desarrollo de las economías subsaharianas con el resto del mundo y especialmente con China. De este modo, quedan al descubierto los principales retos a los que debe hacer frente la región africana y qué nivel de crecimiento y desarrollo alcanza con respecto al mundo

Since the start of the millennium, large economic and social transformations have happened around the world. These phenomena are especially prominent in the region of Eastern Asia and with particular salience in the rapid growth and development in China. However, while other regions of the world could have also experienced important changes, like for example Sub-Saharan Africa, these are nowadays overlooked by the media. Yet are significant changes really happening in the African continent? This piece of work compares the evolution and the current state of the variables generally used to explain the processes of growth and development of the SubSaharan economies with the rest of the world, particularly with China. This exposes the main challenges which this African region has to face and its growth and development level in comparison to the rest of the world
